                Components of food Class 6 science class notes and summary Food: It is the group of edible substances which provide energy to the living beings and repairs the old tissues and builds the new tissues. Nutrition:  The process of consuming nutrients for growth and development of our body and to obtain energy is known as nutrition. Major components of food are: Carbohydrates Fats Proteins Vitamins Minerals Diet:  It is the amount of food eaten by a person at a time. Various food components are grouped in 3 categories: Energy giving food (carbohydrates and fats) Body building food (proteins.) Protective food (vitamins and minerals) Carbohydrates: There are three types of carbohydrates.
